LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: After a 36 hour long journey the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Azadi March led by chairman Imran Khan has arrived in Islamabad.

23:15: PTI chairman Imran Khan says sit-in will be held on Kashmir Highway. Imran says he is near the airport and would soon arrive at Kashmir Highway.

22:27: Azadi March enters Islamabad city limits. The march will make its way to Aabpara where Imran Khan is expected to address participants.

21:50: Imran Khan’s Azadi march reaches Gujar Khan

21:00: PTI workers have gathered at Aabpara in Islamabad as arrangements are being finalised for the arrival of Imran Khan.

18:24: Former President Asif Ali Zardari condemns the attack on Imran Khan in Gujranwala. Zardari says attack shows intolerance on the part of political parties.

18:23: PTI workers remove containers from Aabpara. Containers were removed to build the stage for the rally.
17:20: Ahead of the PTI, PAT marches arrival, heavy rain lashes Islamabad.


17:05: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah condemns attack on Imran Khan’s convoy. Shah says in his opinion Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will not resign and the PPP cannot support this demand.

16:55: Azadi March enters Jhelum.

16:05: PTI leader Jehangir Tareen says their patience should not be tested as holds a news conference in Islamabad

15:41: Imran Khan has left the container and is now in a bulletproof vehicle. The PTI chairman is travelling to Islamabad in the security of Elite Force. In a message on social media Imran Khan told PTI workers to reach Islamabad by this evening.

15:34: Containers removed from Rawat, entry and exit points opened

14:43: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif says people have rejected the Azadi March. Condemning the attacks in Gujranwala, Sharif appealed to people to remain calm. "No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands."
14:21: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid says Imran Khan needs to be saved from Sheikh Rasheed. Information Minister tells Geo News 7,000 people left with the Azadi March from Lahore.



13:59: PTI, PML-N workers clash again near Pindi bypass in Gujranwala. Workers of both parties have pelted each others with stones. Police baton charge to bring the situation under control.



13:37: CM Punjab orders IGP to provide additional security to Azadi March participants. CM orders PML-N offices opened on the route of the march to be shut immediately.

13:23: Sheikh Rasheed tells Geo News there were four attacks on Imran Khan’s container. Rasheed says Imran Khan has made it clear that if anything happens to him a case will be lodged against the Sharif brothers.

12:35 The marchers have proceeded from Gujranwala towards Wazirabad.

12.10 PTI and PML-N workers clash in Gujranwala, several members of both parties injured. Reports stated that the clash took place when PTI supporters were passing through an area where PML-N office was located.



Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has appealed that workers remain calm during the march.

7:40 PTI long march reaches Gujranwala where Imran Khan is addressing the participants.


PTI chief says he will snatch independence as it its never presented in a plate. He says KPK police don't register fake cases. Imran Khan asks Punjab police to release arrested workers of he PTI.

He further says, “We have the strength to topple Nawaz Sharif's fake mandate.”

While warning the goons like Gullu Butt, Khan says, “We have women and children with us. We want to remain peaceful so I warn Gullu Butts to stay within limits.”

The PTI leader claims that Nawaz Sharif should now understand that masses have refused to accept May 2013 elections.

“We will have the celebrations of freedom once we reach Islamabad,” Khan adds.

5:18 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan makes speech as Azadi March reaches Muridkay. Khan says people have are out against poll rigging. He says sacrifices are essential to achieve independence as it is monarchy not democracy.

" I will return from Islamabad after winning the match," he said. Khan said that no power can stop Junoon of people. "Everybody will have to speak truth in Naya Pakistan," said the PTI chief.

2:35 The participants of the march pelted a crane with stones. The crane was parked there to place shipping containers.

20:43: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan says the rallies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) are expected to enter Islamabad by Friday morning but warns that no one will be allowed to violate the law and Constitution.



20:38: Islamabad government allocates locations for Azadi March and Inquilab March. According to sources PTI rally will be held at Aabpara near Kashmir Highway. PAT will be allowed to hold rally at Zero Point.

Khan says he is going to Islamabad to ask for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation. The PTI chairman reiterates that protest is their democratic right. Khan further says the wealth of those governing the country is abroad and vows to keep his money in Pakistan. Khan called for the Election Commission to resign before he arrived in Islamabad and told the crowd that it was unconstitutional to win elections through rigging.

13:10: Peshawar GT Road and Service Road blocked by containers near Sangjani point

12:40: The caravan of leaders and workers of PTI proceeded to Islamabad. The leaders are present inside a secured container.

12:30: Imran Khan addressed the people gathered outside his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore during which he said that freedom is never offered on a platter and has to be snatched.

“We will free Pakistan from pharaohs,” Khan said.



The PTI chief was accompanied by Sheikh Rashid, Asad Umar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Arif Alvi, Shireen Mazari, Jehangir Tareen, Shafqat Mehmood and Ejaz Chaudhary before heading out from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.

Before leaving for the long march, the PTI chief summoned a meeting at his residence to discuss the further plan of action to be taken by the party.

It may be mentioned that the government of Punjab has finally decided not to create hurdles for the supporters and workers of PTI who have gathered from all over the country to participate in the ‘Azadi March’ towards the federal capital on the Independence Day today.

The sources, on the other hand, told that the workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) will not be allowed to leave Model Town to participate in the long march, and whoever will defy the orders will be dealt with iron hands. However, they are allowed to protest outside their secretariat, sources added.

Also, the government of Punjab has finally decided not to create hurdles for the supporters and workers of PTI who have gathered from all over the country to participate in the long march towards the federal capital on the Independence Day today.

The PTI workers and sympathizers are marching towards Islamabad, dubbing it as ‘Azadi March’ against the rigging in the general elections of May 2013 and are demanding the current government to step down.
